From your dashboard, click Install in Slack and approve access for your workspace. One OAuth step for bot and search permissions.

Back on the dashboard, create your workspace and connect apps from the app library. Then message @John with your first task.

Using John

When John responds

John only acts on messages you intend to delegate. Here is what triggers a reply.

  • DMs and group DMs: message John directly; he reads and replies in the conversation.
  • Channels and private channels: @mention John in a message or thread to start.
  • Active threads: teammates can keep replying in the same thread without re-mentioning John.
  • John does not reply to channel messages without @John and without an active John thread.
  • Slash commands: /john help and /john status.
  • Files and voice notes in supported conversations; App Home for connecting apps.
Important

AI accuracy John uses AI to draft replies and summaries. Outputs can be wrong or incomplete. Review before you act on legal, financial, or customer-facing work.

Slack plans The full AI Assistant experience in Slack's app container requires a paid Slack plan. On free Slack workspaces, DMs, threads, slash commands, and App Home still work.
